New Crew for a week. And rough schedule going forward
We planned a week with Tim that worked out. Very rare, especially in unpredictable fall weather. The journey included:
A couple days at a marina in Charleston SC. Awesome small city with so much history.
Trip to Beaufort (pronounced Bewfort) where we anchored and visited a really cute small town.
A trip to Savannah. We were able to secure two nights on the city free dock right in the heart of the old downtown waterfront.
Then we went to a little tiny town of Sunbury for the famous Sunbury Crab Co restaurant. Yum.
Then a long day to another small town and free dock in Darien GA. On that day we saw a couple bald eagles, a couple alligators.
Finally we did the last run to our month home in Brunswick GA.
The Low Country of South Carolina and Georgia is quite beautiful and sublime. Tim and us really enjoyed it.
So, what are the plans going forward. We are still working on February and March. This schedule will be dialed in tighter soon
- We are home till mid-January.
- Then a few days re-provisioning in Brunswick.
- Then continue south. One option is to explore the beautiful St. John river from Jacksonville FL south.
- Or continue south along Florida's Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway. Some friends want to visit the Bahamas in March.
- After some or all of that we will turn back north.
- The northbound trip is constrained by the May opening of the Erie Canal.
- So backing up May on the Hudson River from NYC north.
- April Norfolk VA to NYC through the Chesapeake
- The Erie Canal through to the Thousand Islands Late May to June.
- Enter Canada and traverse the famous and awesome Trent-Severn Waterway July, August.
- Lake Huron, Mackinac Island, Lake Superior and Lake Michigan September. We will probably decide on the southbound Lake Michigan trip closer to the time. The option is the East coast along Michigan or the West coast along Wisconsin.
- There is a lock maintenance planned on the Illinois River that will totally bunch up the southbound boats. We can't leave Chicago till October 1. It's going to be a crowded mess.
- We hope to be able to go through the river system and make it to Joe Wheeler State Park in Rogersville AL by 11/6/23. That is when the AGLCA has the popular Fall Rendezvous. This deadline will be a challenge.
- After the Rendezvous we plan to do a side trip up the Tennessee River to Chattanooga.
- December 2023 Alabama to Carrabelle FL along the Gulf Coast.
- Finally finishing the Loop in Ft. Meyers FL in January 2024.
- Bonus trip to the FL Keys Feb 2024.
- Then a long trip back to Texas with hopes of keeping the boat for a while in the Clear Lake (south Houston) area for some time.
