Trip Summary

 Hello everyone,

We are about 750 miles into our Loop trip. It has been awesome. The way the loop commonly works is by season. Our "late" start from Florida puts us way behind the majority of the Loop pack. Many are up in New York by now and we are still in South Carolina. While every part of the Loop has its beauty and interest Canada and the Great Lakes in the summer are definite high points. We are rushing north a bit, but mainly for the goal of getting away from heat and hurricanes common to the Southeast. Now in South Carolina and the temps are in the 80's. Much better than back in Florida.

Since we don't want to rush our Canada experience this year we are going to go north as far as possibly Maine, then before it gets too cold come back down the east coast as far south as we want. There is a plan to go back home to Texas for the Christmas holiday period and spend a month there. Then, in late January possibly go to the Bahamas before going back north completing a traditional year long loop in 2023.

In summary:

  1. 2022 Summer/Fall: North along east coast
  2. 2022/23 Winter: Florida, Bahamas
  3. 2023 Spring: Travel North on the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway
  4. 2023 Summer: Canada, Great Lakes
  5. 2023 Fall: Head south from Chicago down the inland river and canal system to Mobile Alabama
  6. 2023 November: Mobile to Ft Meyers FL thus completing a full Americas Great Loop!

We welcome visitors who want to see and travel with us. Scheduling is tough but lets try!

Easy ways to follow what's going on with the MV Dawn Watch:

4. Check out the trip videos made by the Relive ap. They are in an earlier post. Still learning the tool but it makes really cool satellite view animated maps with some of our photos inserted.

That's all for now. Thanks for reading

  3. Ahoy, Jim and Dawn!
Looking good, guys. I know that this is an interesting and fun experience, but a lot of work at the same time. Starting every day with a new adventure must be a joy and certainly beats yard work. Hope all continues to go well, stay safe.

    1. Daily planning is definitely work as we have to look at weather, options for where to stay each night, do we need food, water, fuel, pump out. Keeps the brain working but, what amazing things we get to see!

  5. Sounds totally awesome. I could really see doing this but more likely for me would be to spend a year in the RV touring the great trout streams of America. LOL Craig
