Epicness Continues up to Plymouth MA
Teaching Dawn to drive the boat.
We left Port Jefferson NY 8/29/22 headed on a long run up to Noank CT. Long in the boating world is 66 miles for 8 hours. The reason for Noank was to stay three nights and see: The Mystic Seaport Museum
Mystic Seaport Museum and the US Submarine Museum Submarine Museum. Both very well done. Especially the Seaport. I had been there back when I was around 16 or so. Excellent visits. We also got a really nice pizza at Mystic Pizza. Remember the movie? Really good pizza, very different than NY style.
Next stop the famous Newport RI. Famous for Gilded Age mansions and yachting. The place was amazing. While I don't mind wealth, the uber wealth of those bygone days, as well as today has a ring of serious problems. I agree with Mark Twain. The Breakers Mansion made me laugh at the gaudy classless excess of Vanderbilt.
Before leaving there was an issue with the generator. See the separate blog post about that. It was written mainly to the boating audience of the America's Great Loop Association.
Next Run was to Sandwich MA through the Cape Cod Canal. Did you know only three bridges keep Cape Cod from floating off into the Atlantic between Bourne MA and Sandwich MA?
We planned two days there but weather looked bad on the planned day. Made the decision to leave early. Had nice calm seas but had to power up to get into Plymouth as a dark ominous storm was on the horizon. Got into our mooring safely, after being waked by another inconsiderate sport fish boat. I have come to think those guys are the worst on the water. This is him:
While relaxing I saw a lot of commotion on the dock. A small, 20ish ft boat with one guy had brough in the biggest bluefin tuna I have ever seen. Will probably be in the news tomorrow. That fisherman is going to pocket 6 figures easily. You know what he's doing tomorrow? Fishing I'm sure.
