Plymouth MA to Portland ME

We pulled into Plymouth after running the boat up on plane to miss a very ominous storm. Turns out the storm just skirted Plymouth. The next day was rainy all day so we just relaxed on the boat. Wednesday and Thursday we tourist days. We saw a few local sites including Plymouth Rock and the recreation Mayflower II. Very nicely done. Then we went to the Plymouth Patuxet living history recreation of the original Pilgrim village. The staff acting in character did a great job demonstrating life in the 1600’s. Had a couple very expensive and disappointing lobster rolls. Hope things get better on that front in Maine.

We were still trying to push up to Portland ME to see Tim and Lisa. So, a one night visit to Boston. We will definitely go back to Boston, but possibly not on the boat.

Next run up to Gloucester MA. Another one night stay. Went on a mooring ball right in the center of the busy harbor. Had a drink at the Crow’s Nest Bar. That was were the fishermen hung out, and still hang out, back in 91 when the Perfect Storm situation happened.

Next we did a really long run, 9 hours from Gloucester up to Biddeford Pool Maine. The seas were calm and glassy with no wind till the last hour. There were rather large swells coming off Hurricane Earl, but these were quite comfortable to run on. But when the large swells hit the land they made huge waves. Going into probably the wrong cut I had to dodge hundreds of closely spaced lobster pot floats (LPF’s) and rocks and steer in big following seas. Phew!

Finally Monday and off to Portland on a three hour run. We made it a day early. I’ll write about our time with Tim and Lisa Allen next week. They are staying till Sunday.

New Drone Video on my YouTube channel.

You tube

By the way, one day I launched the drone. It went up and a prop was caught or something. Then thing went upside down and crashed onto the boat hard top knocking off the camera lens. That's a 5 sq ft space!. It works fine but I'm still a novice and terrified to fly from the boat. The new video is of some of Biddeford Pool Maine. Anyway, subscribe to the YouTube channel and get notifications. Then you will also know the Blog is updated. I haven't figured out how to allow notifications on this blog platform.
